*  2004年， 时代杂志资深作家Bill Powell 和他的中国妻子从纽约搬回上海，两年半之后(2006)，夫妇俩决定冒一次险，他们在位于上海之外的松江镇购买了一套三层住宅。也就是从那时开始，他们便加入到了这个国家迅猛发展城郊建设的百万大军中。
* 与此同时，1998年来到上海，为中国报刊、商业杂志拍摄图片10多年的摄影师Greg Girard 正在争分夺秒的纪录正在倒掉的法租界和弄堂。
*  Bill Powell 在2006年参加了Greg Girard关于摄影集《Phantom Shanghai》的专题讨论会。2007年5月《Phantom Shanghai》出版。
* 2008年2月14日，时代一并发表了由Bill Powell 为撰文，题为《The Short March》的文章(我们伟大的红军两万五千里长征叫Long March)和Greg Girard拍摄并配有评论音轨的图片专题《Life In China’s Suburbs》。
